    in UK any one can get sick leave as long his/her GP can certify him/her as sick, there is no time limit, but sickness pay is based on NI contributions one has paid. also they are entitled to pay from their employers.,full pay, in the beginning then half pay. the long term sick also get other non means tested benefits and and allowances. if they have no other income they will get a different category of allowances as well. however it is possible that after a lengthy illness, employment can be terminated,but employer has to follow certain procedures
