Is It Hard To Be Pregnant During Nursing School?

I plan on becoming pregnant while in the program, and I just wanted to know if anyone has any information about this. Can they kick you out? Is it too hard? Do you know anyone that has done this?
I feel that this will be the only time to have my second child, since I don't want them too far apart and I don't want to wait until after nursing school b/c I don't want to get pregnant the first year working. Any information would be much appreciated! thank you

I just graduated from nursing school in May and we had three different girls in my year have babies during classes. They made it through and passed and graduated, went on to be nurses. During the end of the year there were two people that were pregnant due during the summer. They can’t kick you out. But remember nursing school is STRESSFUL and if you feel like you can handle the stress along with the work then go for it! I’ve seen it done before :)

I had my second child well in nursing school and I do not recommend it. First of all, the smells are horrible and it seemed like for most of my clinical hours I was turning my head gaging. Plus you can’t lift anything heavy.
Then when the baby comes you will not be able to take 6 weeks off because it will mess your schedule. Taking 6 weeks off during a semester ia about half the time so you can’t do that so if you took time off you would have to wait until that class was offered again the following year.
I had my baby and went back to school a week later – it was tough and I didn’t get a lot of time to bond with the baby.

A friend of mine went through nursing school pregnant. She was halfway through the program when she conceived. She graduated, passed her licensing exam and is now working as an RN. It can be done, but I remember how exhausted she was all the time. I don’t think she got any sleep, and the pregnancy was very hard on her.
I’m applying to nursing schools next year, and I wouldn’t go through the program pregnant for anything. I had pre eclampsia and gestational diabetes, so it was all I could do to keep up the pace at my desk job.

I would expect that it would be very difficult but depending on the school it’s definately possible. I know that some schools in Utah & Arizona have part time BSN programs you can do. I’m in a similiar situation too. I was a semester away from being able to apply & found out I am pregant. I am just going to go part time until my husband finishes his program (he is in in the Pharmacy Program) & then I’ll go back to school & finish.

I hear they can ask you to leave, because there are too many risks of you getting sick with a lowered immune system. Best wait until after the program to get pregnant. Find out from the program before you ttc.
