The best option would be to begin taking courses such as basic Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology to prepare. You can begin taking these while in high school if your GPA is good.
The basic RN degree is an Associates Degree of Nursing. Many community colleges around Cali have them.
The board of Registered Nursing has a site that shows the steps to becoming a registered nurse here:http://www.rn.ca.gov/careers/steps.shtml
They also have the pass rates of students graduating from programs in California here:http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.s…
I feel that the programs with the best pass rates generally do the best job at preparing their students for a career as a registered nurse.
If you want to start as a LVN or Licensed Vocational Nurse and work your way up you should look here:http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/general_informat…
Question & Answer #3
Accredited Schools for LVN here:http://www.bvnpt.ca.gov/education/school…

It sounds like you are already very thoughtful and doing a good job to try to prepare for becoming a nurse.
Good luck!
