What Does It Take To Get Into Nursing School?
I am at a Community College that has a very competitive program. It has a point system and you have to get B's in all your science classes. Out of 500 students who have applied for it, 50 only get in every semester. One of the reasons why is because it is extremely inexpensive. My GPA is a 2.78 and my grades are fine. I have B's in all my science classes, except Anatomy and Physiology 2. Should I just start applying to other nursing schools and how hard is it to get into them.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 20 years. My first degree was from a Community College with a very similar competitive system. I think you should apply for as many programs as you can without putting all your eggs in one basket. Your GPA could be a problem. On a scale with 4.0 being at the top 2.78 is a C+ average. The B’s that you got in all your science is a good thing. If you do not get in on this try I would continue to take classes working towards a degree in biology or chemistry. Work very hard and get your GPA up into the 3.5 to 3.9 range. If you are very close to getting the degree go for it and then re-apply to Nursing School. Completing a degree with an improvement to your GPA shows a commitment to your education. Which is a good thing. I would also looking to doing volunteer work at a hospital or nursing home. This will also show your commitment to Nursing as a career.
