Can a medical office not hire you for being "unattractive"?
Discount Medical Scrubs
I recently went on a job interview and slam dunked it. I dressed very professional was like 20 mins early, had all of my credentials with me and was very prepared. I was called back to start working the following Monday and I did exactly what was asked of me. I shadowed one of the other employees to get the feel of things around the office.
However, at the end of the day the office manager pulled me aside and told me that they actually were no longer interested in me being employed there. They straight told me to my face that the physicians in the office (which I didn't meet during the interview) thought that I was unattractive, sloppy, and that I "should have" worn white sneakers with my scrubs. Rather than the gray "Nike Shoxs I wore. My question is, can an medical office really not hire then fire you the same day based on these standards?

EEOC offers no protected classification for appearance.
Yes they can refuse to hire you for that reason

Appearance is not a protected class. If they refused to hire you because of your race, sex, age, religion… that would be a different story.

I do not believe it is legal to base employment on your physical appearance.* If it was about the way you dressed that could be changed, but seems to me it was based on your face, not pretty enough for some of the doctors.*

Yes they can.
The laws only protect you against discrimination for: race, sex, age, national origin and so on. There is no protection based on "physical appearance". Also they thinking that you were "sloppy", didn’t help your case.
Is it’s fair? Probably no, BUT it’s legal. Welcome to the real World.
