Do you have to go through civilian nursing school before you can become a military nurse?

Discount Medical Scrubs

I know that to become a military nurse you have to go through basic training and lots of tech school, but do you have to complete a civilian nursing program before you can join? I am interested in joining the Air Force. Thanks!

    Nurses must have a BSN in hand before seeking a commission.

    if you enlist you will NOT be a Nurse. medic only.

    to be a military nurse you must be an registered first
    and have a bachelors too

    At one time in the Air Force they did have a special program where people with a certain amount of college and other requirements could apply to a school down at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center and attend nursing school and become commissioned RNs. One of my enlisted co-workers in aeromed applied and was selected for it and got his RN and got commissioned. That program existed for about twelve years during the 70s and 80s but was discontinued. Now you must have your RN already and you go in as a second lieutenant unless you have experience and a specialty and then you might be commissioned as a first lieutenant.
