EKG = electrocardiogram. It’s a recording of the electrical activity of the heart.
MRI = magnet resonance imaging. It’s a radiologic imaging test.
CAT or CT scan = computerized axial tomography. Fancy xrays that show slices through the body.

EKG/ECG stands for electrocardiogram and is used to monitor the electrical impulses associated with the heart. It’s a critical tool that provides critical information about the patient’s status and is frankly indispensable.
MRI & CAT (CT) refers to: Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography, respectively… both cross-sectional imaging modalities that allow physicians to look inside the body to look for disease in a non-invasive manner. MR involves the use of a very strong magnetic field and radiofrequency waves to construct images of the inside of the body, whereas in CT, ionizing radiation is used to help figure out what’s going on inside the patients body based on differential attenuation of the x-ray beam by different tissues in the body.
Sometimes CT is better for certain indications, other times MR offers superior data for evaluation.

EKG = electrocardiogram = a test to check for abnormalities in the rhythm of your heartbeat
MRI = Magnetic Resonance Imaging
CAT scan = Computer Axial Tomography
both of these tests are sophisticated ways of looking inside you much more accurately than was ever possible previously w/o actual surgery. There are technical differences btween the two & certain ailments may be better detected by one over the other, but they are fairly similar from a lay person’s viewpoint.
