Doctors and Surgeons! ! Is your job anything like the medical Dramas that we see on tv?

Discount Medical Scrubs

For example, House, Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs, ER?
And, also, what do you need to know? Is there a lot of math involved?

Nah. That’s fiction. Entertainment. We have excitement, but not so much drama.

As one of my medical professors said, "You need to know everything." You need to know anatomy, physiology, microbiology, histology, genetics, pathology, pharmacology, physical diagnosis, and (grrrr) biochemistry. Not all of it all the time, but you need to know enough of it that you can understand what you need to know.

You don’t need to know a lot of math, or ANY upper level math, like calculus (we’re not solving differential equations in the OR), but you need enough math to calculate things precisely (like drug dosages) and to understand the physics behind the physiology.

No, it’s not like Scrubs. Sigh.

House- this guy has a crew on doctors all focused on one patient who always has some strange rare condition. Sorry, not even close to reality. rare conditions are just that, rare, and you don’t get that much time with one patient unless they are loaded and have hired you privately.
Grey’s anatomy is not a medical drama, it is a soap opera. enough said there.
Scrubs is actually one of the most medically accurate medical shows on TV, which is sad because they don’t try to be.
ER- way over the top, something is always blowing up, and everyone one of there cardiac arrest patients comes through, sorry, not real.
And no, there is not a lot of math involved.

There are a lot of similarities, maybe not quite as much of the love triangles and steamy scenes, but it is not dull and can be quite stressful as well as many hours.

Unfortunately NOT…!!! there is nothing amusing nor even funny in the work…those scenes of people coming to the emergency room shouting orders like : Adrenaline IV STAT…!…or….Bring to me the Blood,,do we have any??,,,,is just for play….in real life, the problems are like in any other job, only that here, human lives are at stake….in the ER everyone is trained and knows what to do, how to do it, and keep quiet and working…..Math???dear, you will need math all of your life…if you think that math are not used here, you have been told wrong….yes, lots of math…
All you need to know, is Medicine, Surgery, and how The law protects you and your patients……
Nothing dramatic about it though…..lots and lots of sleepless nights working, if that is what you mean..
