how residents get by…?
Discount Medical Scrubs
do medical residents actually steal things (scrubs, snack foods, etc.) from their hospitals? How do the higher-ups respond to it?

everyone "borrows" scrubs from the hospital- nurses, janitors, doctors. most of us return it to be laundered after we’re done with it. it’s not particularily attractive attire anyway. and yes, we’ll take food right off a patient’s plate if we can get away with it. one time a demented old lady was mistakenly ordered a food tray. she wasn’t supposed to eat for some reason (npo for surgery or something…) so i took the chocolate cake from her tray. that food was going to be wasted anyway.

I really doubt that residents make that little amount of money. but i don’t doubt that the stealing goes on.

There are many types of people who go into medicine. The common thread is that the cost of education is disproportionately higher than the resident’s salary.
That being said, at our hospital- scrubs are given (well, loaned) to the residents and they sometimes provide snacks for their workers.
Most of us try not to take things that are not ours.

Scrubs and minor things are considered to be perks by many. I’m wearing some borrowed scrubs now. Taking anything personnel or for profit is not approved by anyone.
