What is it like if you want to be a doctor?
Discount Medical Scrubs
Please explain what Medical School is like and then after that...like Residency. That's what I intend on pursuing, but I would just like to know a little more about it.
Also, does scrubs accurately depict the life of interns & residents? (of course not the crazy stuff)
Thanks!

Medical school: imagine college, but taking 2 years’ worth of classes per semester.
Residency: imagine a job in a hospital, but you’re there twice as long as a normal person would work, except for the days when you’re there three times as long as a normal person would work. And you’re responsible for people’s lives.
Regarding Scrubs – No. It’s fiction. So is ER. And House.
There are occasionally documentaries on Discovery and those types of channels that give you a better picture of the life of a resident.

I’m not going to go into what med school and residency because there are plenty of other questions.
However, I will comment on scrubs. No it does not accurately depict what interns and residents go through.

First of all, you need to maintain excellent grades and get involved in some worthwhile medical volunteer service. It is very hard to master the subjects necessary to make it into med. school. Forget all about TV shows. Medical school is like Marine boot camp, with lots of brain work added to it. Not for the easily discouraged, the weak, or the faint of heart. My son in law just began his first year in No. Ca. First he was give a real human head to learn on, and a bag of plastic bones, which he can take home (the plastic bones, not the head) Now he and 3 other students have their own cadaver to take apart. One of the first years students fainted when he first saw a dead body, but that happens every year. If you want to be a Dr you will need to put everything you’ve got into it, along with plenty of time and money. Good luck.
