A Question About Uniforms?
Discount Medical Scrubs
OK, even though I was commissioned in the Medical Services Corps (USAF) I have never found out the answer to this question.
OK, are surgical scrubs and lab coats considered a part of the uniform? Because I was actually a Psychologist who worked in Neuro, I sometimes wore a lab coat.
Now, we almost always ate in the hospital mess...but we would occasionally cruise down to the barber shop or BX. Nobody ever gave us any crap about it...but what regs. cover the wearing of medical garments?
BTW, I am talking about CLEAN scrubs and lab coats. LOL
Alexander: If I knew the answer, I would not have asked the question.
...and, I asked for the specific regulation.
Thanks AM...I have often wondered about that. Surprisingly, it was NOT covered in orientation. Like I said, nobody screwed with the Docs, but I always knew there was a reg. somewhere.
Our Hospital Commander never said anything about it...he was a BG selectee, so nobody messed with him either. Wore his greenies about 50% of the time.

Local Command or Hospital Commander sets the rules!
AS a rule, scrubs, lab coats, smocks should never be worn outside the hospital environment with the exception of the Hospital/Medical Center DFAC!
I remember at one time we wore BDU’s to work, change into scrubs , work, then at the end of the day change back into BDU’s to go home???!!!
whoever is giving thumbs down – just fuck off!!!

Surgical Scrubs will not be worn outside except during emergency situations (I.e., fires, evacuations
etc)
EXCEPTION: Ambulance crews when authorized by the Medical Treatment Facility Commander
