Can colleges force students to adhere to a certain dress code?
Discount Medical Scrubs
I am currently in a Medical Assisting Associates Degree program. When I first started, I was in the MA Diploma program and the college required that scrubs were to be worn to Clinical classes and that all other classes regular dress may be worn. The Associate Degree students were given the same guidelines. Then they told the diploma students that scrubs were to be worn at all times for all classes both clinical and general eds. Several months later (now) they are making the Associate degree students wear scrubs to their general ed classes. And if the students to adhere to the dress code they will be kicked out.
What happens if I end up in a class full of business students and I'm the only MA student...would definitely stick out..
Is it legal for a college to force certain academic programs to wear certain clothing? None of the other academic programs at the college have a specific dress code.
correction*** If students DO NOT adhere to the dress code, they will be kicked out.
Judith, they don't give the option to wear different clothes to other classes. It's scrubs to ALL classes regardless if they are clinical or general education. : \

If that happens, I would have a word with the course tutor. It does sound a bit bizarre – they may not have thought it through.

They can make any rules they want as long as they are not discriminating against someone based upon race, sex, religion or age. So take a change of clothes when you are attending other classes. They may have a very good reason for this particular dress code especially if you will be seen by any patients.
