Could this be a sinus infection?
Discount Medical Scrubs
I have never had any trouble with my sinuses before, but for the past week or so, I have been smelling something similar to an infection. At first, I thought that it was something in my house, but after a serious scrub-down, it is still there. It is not a constant thing, but it occurs quite a few times a day, and it is like something is draining in the back of my throat when it is present. At first I thought I was going crazy, but my husband says he cant smell anything different. I dont have medical coverage and cant afford to go to a doctor to find out exactly what is wrong. Is there something I can do to help put a stop to this, or kill the infection, if there is one? Any home remedies or over-the-counter medications that could help? I dont have a sore throat, stuffy nose or anything like that. Just this smell and drainage that nobody else around me can smell. Am I going crazy? Please help......

Yes it does sound like one. I have that problem. Pus starts to form in the cavities and you start to smell something really bad lol. Antibiotics is the only way to kill an infection . but if you are not having pain or pressure you can try the Saline wash. any pharmacy or even wal mart may have it.Its a plastic bottle with saline powder envelopes. you just add bottle water to it and squirt it up a nostril and it comes out the other with all the yucky mucous it works wonders. And it cleans out your sinuses but dont worry it dosent hurt maybe feel a little strange but thats it. You should try to see if you can get antibiotics though this will wipe it out completely.

I suffer from chronic sinusitis (multiple times per year), and I have never, ever "smelled" infection (maybe someone will tell you otherwise, but I can’t even think what "infection" would smell like?). Sometimes smelling odd things can be a sign of something else, such as a seizure. That is a "sometimes" though, so don’t be too alarmed if you have no other unusual or neurological symptoms.
If you have drainage down the back of your throat, it very well could be a sinus infection. If so, you can expect to have a stuffy nose, stuffy feeling in your sinus cavities, runny nose, sore throat, cough (from the drainage and infection going into your throat/lungs), face pain, eye pain, headaches.
Most of the over-the-counter things work the same for symptoms, but none will make you recover any faster. Mucinex is good, but it is expensive. I usually go with DayQuil (NyQuil), Tylenol Sinus, etc. Nothing beats Vicks if your chest or nasal passages are blocked.

you,re not crazy. you might have a combo of sinus infection, plus allergies. i have sinus drainage right now. it,s not bad, but it,s there. green snot or clear? green means infection .clear is allergies. a neti pot to flush the sinus is helpful. hot peppers drain the sinuses. i use an otc sinus headache relief med. gargling with salt water will help a sore throat.

Gotta chime in here, sorry can’t keep my big mouth shut.
Sinus infections are no fun at all and every case is different but I always say start w/ more natural remedies first. Nasal rinses, neti pot for example.
And then of course keep in contact w/ your doctor as if things progress you might have chronic sinusitis. And then it’s a ct scan and the choices are usually balloon sinuplasty or endoscopic sinus surgery.
