How to volunteer at my local hospital?

Discount Medical Scrubs

I want to pursue a medical career and I thought it would be a great thing to do to volunteer at my local hospital! I was just wondering these following things:

1. How old does one have to be in order to volunteer? I am 16.
2. What steps do I need to take to actually go and volunteer? How do I set up an interview, and with whom?
3. How should I dress when I go for an interview?
4. How should I dress when I go to work there? Will there be scrubs or do I have to wear clothes from my own wardrobe or what?

Thank you so very much for taking your time to read my questions and to answer them! :)

Wayne & Lynne said it all! I’m sure different hospitals have different ways of doing things! Look in your phone book for the hospital’s main number or call information to get it. They’ll let you know what you need to do to set up an appointment! Good luck!

Ask you guidance councilor at school for some information. She or he may also have a name of a person in charge of volunteers and phone # of the local hospital for you to call. When you do go in for an interview, dress nicely. No torn jeans or tee shirts.Maybe something you’d put on if you were going some place nice for dinner with your folks. They have uniforms for volunteers and you will be told at the time of your interview where to get them or if the hospital will supply you with one.The nurses wear scrubs so you won’t have to worry about those.

Honey these are not general questions. You must go to the hospital you’re interested in or call and they will give you specifics. Every hospital is different. Most make you go through orientation periods though. I am letting you know this because you’re of school age and a schedule may be of issue.
