I hate math so much. Can I still make it as a Medical Assistant?
Discount Medical Scrubs
I am going to Oklahoma City Community College next year for a Medical Assistant job but I hate math. I know they have to dispense some meds so I'm wondering if there is alot of math involved. As long as I have a calculator, should I be alright?
Also, I am looking for a mentor. If you know anyone who is a Medical Assistant and could offer me some advice I would love to get their email from you. I need some advice from someone who is in the career.
Oh, and one more thing, Do you get to wear scrubs if you are a Medical Assistant?

There is basic math involved–percentages, fractions & ratios. If you can not understand the basic concept however, you will have a hard time dispensing meds. You might ask to see some medication problems and see what you think. You will wear some sort of uniform–not necc the classic scrub outfit-it depends on where you wind up working. Often it is a smock type top and some kind of loose pant.

I went to school for medical assisting, and encountered little to no math. I hate math too, so this was a big for me in school but the school didn’t really put much emphasis on it. If you have a calculator, you will do just fine. Medical assistants don’t spend their whole time dispensing medications, their not nurses. And yes, you will wear scrubs, sometimes the colorful ones with patterns depending on the office you work for. The math is very basic so don’t worry to much about it and if your still having trouble, your instructor is there to help.
