Is discoloration under toenail tips nail fungus?

Discount Medical Scrubs

My bf has blackish discoloration under his toenails but only at the tips and the nails are not thickened. The discoloration is hard to scrub out, like it's stained so it's not dirt or anything like that, but it does eventually come off but comes back in about 3-5 days. He's been using Vick's on his nails for about a month and his nail bed turned purplish and every few days a very little amount of blackish dirt looking stuff comes up from the cuticles and sides of the nails and it hard to remove.

The Vick's treatment seems to be working but I'm concerned that since he self diagnosed himself and that the problem my not be nail fungus but some other kind of medical problem. Has anyone ever have nail fungus without nail thickening and just discoloration under the tips of the nails??

There are some very serious conditions that can cause black discolorations on the toe nails – so tell your BF to quit practicing medicine without a license, and at to see someone a little more qualified….

And just because he’s gonna make a fuss about it…..

Most toenail fungus isn’t black, and it almost always thickens the nail

    Good Luck

there are all kinds of nail fungus, try using peroxide instead..fill bowl with half warm water and half peroxide.place toes inside and sit for 15 minutes..do this for two weeks and then see if it comes back,.be sure to soak toe nail clippers in peroxide to kill fungus on it also.If it comes back he needs to see the doctor.

It sounds like the beginnings of nail fungus.

Personally, I’ve tried a lot of different stuff over the years. I had dealt with the combo nail fungus and athletes foot for almost 20 years. One "free" thing that did help a lot was vinegar.

It didn’t help much with the nail fungus but it completely stopped the athlete’s foot that I was also suffering from.

For the fungus I tried a lot of different things, including over the counter treatments, vinegar, bleach, tea tree oil, vicks and lavender oil. Some of them did make a little difference but none of them completely killed the fungus.

I also tried lamisil which worked for a while then after a couple of months I had a relapse of the nail fungus. The scary thing with the lamisil is the possible health issues you can face as a result of using it, the doctor had me take a test to make sure my liver wasn’t prone to problems before he’d give me the lamisil… gulp!

In the end what finally fixed my loong term problem with nail fungus was Zeta Clear. I think what also helped is that I made it a part of my daily ritual to use it.

Another thing that I did that probably helped was throw out my old shoes. I have heard that the fungus can live in your shoes and return after treatment. So to avoid a relapse I made sure to get new shoes and throw out the old ones.

    Best of Luck!
