Is this okay to ask for a job interview for a med assist?

Discount Medical Scrubs

I am interviewing for a front desk position for a clinic. I am a medical assistant I am interviewing for a receptionist position, but when I was on the phone with the manager she said since I have back office and front office experience that I could be cross trained just in case. Should I assume if I get the position that scrubs are okay or should I ask at the interview what would be ok to wear? Would this be an inappropriate question? Should I wait to see if the position is even offered or when should i ask also they have my resume and letters of recommendation already should I bring copies just in case?? Thanks in advance.

I would certainly wait at least until the position is offered.

Also, it’s a great idea to bring extra copies. It shows that you are prepared and there may be others in the interview who weren’t given copies. If the interviewer forgets theirs it can only help you look good.

I wouldn’t ask about wearing scrubs until you’ve started the position and gotten a feel for the environment. Depending on the clinic, I could see where it would be appropriate to wear scrubs but I could also see where it could cause real problems or conflict.

For example, if there are other receptionists who are not medical assistants, they might be rather offended. Or, if it is a busy clinic, the clothing may be important in helping clients identify who is there to help with administrative tasks and who is not. If it’s a small clinic it might not matter much at all.

Ultimately, though, they are currently looking for a receptionist so you want to make sure you are communicating that you are willing and able to play that role. Once you show your cooperative nature, professionalism, flexibility and all that good stuff, the other parts will fall in place.

yes, bring copies.. they should have them, but you never know.. HR might not have gotten them over to the hiring manager (or whoever is interviewing)

yes you should ask.. nothing worse than coming into work on your first day dressed wrong..

but how about something like ‘what is the dress attire for this position’ that way you can find out without assuming that you already have the job.
