My doctor was late delivering my baby, was he the cause of hydrocephalus?

Discount Medical Scrubs

I had my baby full term+one week eight years ago. At seven months of age i found out from an MRI he had hydrocephalus.
When I went into labor the doctor was not at the hospital. It was'nt until my son's head was sticking out before the doctor arrived, not even in scrubs. The nurse began delivery before the doctor arrived and "recapped" to the doctor that my son's head kept drawing back in as I was pushing him out. I left the hospital not being told of anything about an umbilical that was wrapped and was'nt up to a year ago today that i found out he had a cord wrapped around his neck from paying for my medical records. I guess I would like to ask any doctors out there if they have ever heard of this. I have looked it up and don't know if hydrocephalus is liked to nuched cords. I have found out that derpived oxygen causes hydrocephalus. Please help, my son is seven and is metally and physically like a two year old, I just want answers.

Hydrocephalus is caused by a lack of drainage of the brain. Sometimes it corrects itself, sometimes a shunt is required. It is a birth defect, but can be caused by injury.

Hydrocephalus that is caused by birth would have shown up within a few weeks of birth. They certainly would have found it long before 7 months.

What you experienced in birth is very common and has absolutely nothing to do with whether your doctor was there or not. Just bad luck. Sorry. 1 in 5 babies is born with a cord around their neck.

Go to the library and find out everything you can about the subject. Than make an appointment with the doctor. After talking to him decide if you want to sue or not.

it’s def not the doctors fault, he couldnt help the fact that he wasnt there or that the cord was wrapped around your sons neck. but they should have been monitoring his heart beat to make sure he was getting oxygen. my son has his cord around his neck as well and i was in labor for a long time. took my an hour to push him out. he’s fine i did have oxygen during labor though to ensure my son was getting oxygen since his heart beat was dipping

from what you are describing it totally normal most of the time thats how it goes the nurse is usually there coaching you to push and those types of things then once the baby is crowning the doc comes in and actually deliver your baby. They usually can detected hydrops prior to delivery on ultrasound because of the increased fluid in the head its a birth defect that can occur without injury
