my friend claims to have had a heart attack during PE while running the mile. help?
Discount Medical Scrubs
The person i am talking about isn't very physcially fit and I think he just overworked his body, running three laps around a 1/4 mile without stopping (which I know can be hard to people not in the best of shape) 3/4 the way through his third lap and he goes over to the side of the track and sits down. Obviously he is in some type of pain, otherwise he wouldn't have just sat down during a timed, graded mile.
When I ran by him, he claimed to be having a heart attack, and he knows because he had had one before, which is hard to believe--seeing he is only 13. After a few minutes, the PE teacher saw he wasn't finishing and ran over to see what the problem was. He had some of the girls from our class go and get a wheelchair.
He didn't look pale and he wasn't necessarily clutching his chest around his heart, but by this time I only saw it from a far. He was still consious but spitting (not throwing up) a lot. I looked up some symptoms and intend on asking him how he felt (did his jaw clench up? Was his abdomen area in pain? Did he have a feeling he wasn't going to make it?)
This boy also claims to drink a lot and has recently become a smoker... and always claims to be hungover from the night before. I would not be surprised at this behavior from someone different but he is... well a suckup to teachers and one of those kids that gets good grades and everything they say is annoying....
He was gone the rest of the day but by the next day, he was back. He told everyone that he had had a minor heart attack and the doctor kept him for only a few hours and let him go. Obviously I don't have a medical degree of any kind (ive never even helped a doctor in a time of need emergancy) but I watch many doctor shows like house (which i think tends to be somewhat accurate), scrubs (which isn't as much a doctor show as it is a comedy in a hospital with a few doctor terms thrown in), and royal pains.. which is off air. Anyways, on TV, ive seen a great deal of symptoms of heart attacks and doctors usually keep the patient overnight JIC.
I was wondering if he could have actually had a heart attack. Let me remind you, he is 13 and TWO heart attacks by thirteen is rarer than two blue moons in a decade.

Maybe not as rare as you think. If he had a congenital heart defect, or Rheumatic Fever, or any other condition that can cause heart problems, it is possible for a young person to have a heart attack.j
Given that he is overweight, smoking, and drinking it is possible that he felt angina and thought it was a heart attack. Or maybe even a mild heart attack. Only his doctor could tell, and then only with blood tests within the hour or two of the event.
His PE teacher should have been alerted by his mother if there was a real problem, but poor communications could be the real problem there. If the teacher wasn’t thinking ‘heart attack risk’ because the kid isn’t too terribly obese, that would explain the running requirement as part of the curriculum to grade the students on physical fitness. (Couldn’t he just look??) Otherwise the teacher could be in deep trouble.
Not everyone responds to a heart attack like you see on TV. Although House depicts symptoms very good. If the kid didn’t have sweat pouring off him, and never did much more than sit down, he may or may not have had a ha. But only he, his mom, and his doctor will know.
You might ask him if he is wanting to die young. The combination of overweight, alcohol, nicotine, and heart problems will pile up and kill him. Just hope he doesn’t pick up illegal drugs as well.
Best wishes

I am not a medical!
It is possible he has heart problems but I suspect not and that he is looking for attention.
I have had one and at the least symptom they will have you in at least overnight, and bucket loads of tests.
Where is the proof of 2 heart attacks by 13?
Symptoms for heart attack can be very mild but still VERY serious. I wish the lad no harm but I think he is playing games. Maybe not.

I dont really feel like answering this too much (My own reasons, nothing related), but I will point out that House and the other programs are not at all very accurate.
Did you know if the heart has stopped, they dont shock you? I know, it always shows that on tv, that if your heart stops they shock it to get it going again. Actually that’s completely false.
Most tv programs, though About medical mishaps, are completely wrong. Never assume that just beccause you’ve seen it on tv, it must be right.
BTW, your friend could have had a heart attack, or not, either way he will if he continues doing what he does.
