nurse or doctor, is it possible for me please help?
Discount Medical Scrubs
I have always wanted to be a surgeon, there is something about the o.r. that makes me feel like im home and relaxed when i have scrubbed in to observe. I'm 22 and had to quit school to take care of my mom who has severe cancer. My gpa has gone down to a 2.6 because i thought i could handle anatomy along with other classes durring my mom's surgieres and diagnosis the last year. My mom's nurses have tried to convince me to become a nurse and specialize in the o.r. and be a trauma nurse. That sounds really interesting but I have a feeling ill always be disapointed that i didnt become a doctor/surgeon.
Should I be a Doctor, nurse or just forget about the medical field.........is my gpa to bad to make this possible or can i somehow overcome my 2.6 gpa and how do i fix it........
please help

If you had decent grades before that, medical schools might take pity on your situation. It’s worth a try right? Just do what feels right to you. Nursing school is pretty easy to get into also. Sorry about your mom. I was an oncology pharmacist for 4 years.

You can apply to medical school in Mexico, or the Dominican Republic.

I knew a woman who got an F average one semester then went back to school the following semester and got straight A’s. She was dealing with a lot that first semester. The Dean of Students told her if she does really well he would remover that semester worth of failing grades. Her lived up to his word. Talk with the Dean of your school. Retake anatomy as well.

Getting into medical school is not easy with a low GPA, but at least a few years ago it was not impossible. See the first attached link. Getting a very high MCAT score would improve your chances. So would finishing your undergraduate degree with straight A’s from here on out and then enrolling in a postbaccalaureate program (see second link). Finally, consider applying to medical schools that have lower than average admissions standards. See the book medical school admission requirements for details (third link) as well as the similar book for osteopathic medical schools (fourth link). Finally, you could consider going to one of the medical schools in the Caribbean. However, there is a wide range in quality of education at these schools (see second link), and it won’t do you any good to spend a lot of money and several years of your life getting a degree unless you can also pass all necessary parts of the US Medical Licensing exam and match into a US surgery residency.

I think it would be better to figure out what you really want to do, then go out and get information as to how you can make that possible; so that you won’t regret later on in life. If grades are what’s been really stopping you from becoming a doctor, then talk to the faculty of your school and see how that can be resolved. Also, when you apply to medical schoool, you can explain to then what has happened to affect your grades. Remember there is a difference between a doctor and nurse in the amount of school then the payment and what you can actually do for your community. Don’t give up. Your mom would want you to give life the best shot. Good luck.
