Patient transporter at a hospital?
Discount Medical Scrubs
I recently applied for a job as a patient transporter at a local hospital, and I have an interview next Tuesday.
The job description says:
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items to their destinations enabling physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists to perform their duties in an effective manner.. EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: High school graduate or equivalent. Prior patient care/handling experience preferred. Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Completes population specific competency annually on populations served as identified in scope of care and service. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
I have a couple of questions though:
1) What's the pay like?
2) What is the job actually like? I mean, you take patients from one place to another, but do you get to see things, like when they have scans done and whatnot?
3) As a patient transporter, what do you wear? (Wondering if I should be looking for scrubs).
Thanks!

I don’t know about the pay but worked as a nurse in a hospital for years. The transporters usually wore scrubs and had a supervisor. You may be escorting someone in wheelchairs or beds from their room down to exray and such. You may have to wait for someone and would be in the department long enough to see a few things. You will meet some interesting people and may find that further education in the medical field will be for you. Good luck.

these would be excellent questions to ask in your interview, when someone interviews you, they always ask you if you have questions, and if you are ready with questions, they appreciate it, they see that you are interested enough in the job to have questions, instead of sitting there like a lump.

basically you will be a Hospital Porter the pay is quiet reasonable probably starting around £1500 a month after deductions you will be taking patients from wards to theatre and x ray etc you will not be seeing them go through their procedures you will not have to buy scrubs or anything else as anything like that will be supplied by the Hospital
