What do you do if you've breathed in mould/moss & now have a cough, chest problems, etc?
Discount Medical Scrubs
How do I get rid of what I breathed in? I was cleaning a fence outside in preparation for painting it but didn't realise the effect the green mould/moss on it would have on me so I wasn't wearing a face mask. It took me several hours to scrub it off the fence & some of it was so thick I even used a wire brush. Woke up early the next morning having sneezing fits & had to take anit histamines to stop sneezing & having a runny nose. Whatever I've breathed in is sitting in my chest somewhere & if I cough (which I don't very often, maybe once every 2 hours during waking time) there is a smell & horrible taste. I'm not actually coughing up any phlegm though. How to best flush this out of my chest area? I've been using Vicks vaporub. Would prefer to hear from a doctor/nurse/medical student or someone who has experienced the same thing. Thanks.

I’m not a medical professional, Zebra, but my little boy has bad asthma and mould is one of the triggers. I’ve spent the past 13 months on high alert with him and have had a crash course in asthma and allergy awareness, unfortunately.
First of all, I would really go and get this checked out at the doctor. Are you usually an asthma sufferer? Even if you aren’t, I’d really advise you to get your chest checked to see whether or not you’re wheezing. If you are then they can give you medication that can widen the passageways in your lungs and help get the yuck out, and for you to breathe more easily. Also, they might suggest you get a chest x-ray to check everything is OK.
It sounds as though you’ve had an allergic reaction to this and that the antihistamines you’ve taken haven’t worked. The doctor will be able to assess this and give you stronger ones, if needed.
Please go and get this checked out because if something is stuck in your chest, then it could get worse and give you an infection, and if it has triggered asthma then that is unpredictable and can get rapidly worse. All the best and take care!!

It’s just all the febres that got into your lungs, they are all irritated and it will go away eventually but nothing to worry about. Just wear a mask next time.
