What do you think of marijuana being supported by the National Cancer Institute?
Discount Medical Scrubs
THAT'S RIGHT! After so many years of ignoring the truth the first federal health institute, NCI, has confirmed that marijuana has medical potential.
They also go on to say that cannabis use is shown not to cause cancer unless mixed with tobacco, how the addictive potential is quite low, and how cannabis use can help medically for a number of diseases.
You can read it all here: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/cannabis/healthprofessional/page1
There is just ONE problem: When they first posted this on their website, they put that cannabis is potentially has an "anti-tumor" effect. Which sounds about right since there are studies popping up say that cannabis kills tumor cells and might even help cure cancer(!) However, later the part mentioning the anti-tumor effects was edited out!
Read about it here:

That's BS! I don't know who did this (let the conspiracy theories begin), but obviously putting that up conflicted with SOMEONES interest.
Anyway, this recognition by a federal institute could end up finally downgrading cannabis from a schedule 1 drug to a schedule 3 drug.
What are your thoughts on this idea and the 'editing' done at the NCI?

Cannabis is semi legal in my state only requiring a license & all the CONS objections never happened, the creative ‘editing’ effort is par for the course concerning opponents tactics…

The only reason George Bush Sr changed it from a schedule 3 to a schedule 1 was to protect the profits of the Eli Lilly corporation, a company the Bush family owns quite a bit of stock in and Bush Sr was Chairman of the Board of Directors for 2 years after his stint as Director of the CIA.
I’m sure they changed it, there is too much money to be made in keeping it illegal.
Hell, before Congress passed the Marijuana Stamp Tax in 1937, there were several medical studies indicating it wasn’t harmful. W.R. Hearst didn’t like that and used his newspapers to sway public opinion and get it passed.

Honestly, findings on the antineoplastic qualities of marijuana are mixed. There are conflicting studies on that claim and it hasn’t been fully worked out yet. Cancer.gov has jumped the gun a little bit by claiming that marijuana is an antineoplastic and I’m sure it was taken down with the first e-mail they got from an academic physician.

It’s about time.
They must have listened to doctors and scientists rather than politicians while writing this paper. It’s too bad our laws aren’t also based on science the way this article is.

Preventing inflammation is being looked at more and more as a tactic for preventing heart disease and many cancer related illnesses
Also been known to stop some asthma attacks with people who know strict moderation of use can bring about favorable openings of the bronchiols and aveoli of the lungs
(emphasis on strict moderation for asthmatics)

If marijuana is legal for medical use, then we will still have the same problem we have now, illegal recreational use. And there are other concerns. The feds mandate rat poison be sprayed on tobacco. Will they require it be sprayed on marijuana, too?

Synthetic THC is already a schedule 3 drug. The natural product is still Schedule 1, and big pharma would have a tough time making money from it in that form since we could grow our own medicine if the plant itself were to be rescheduled. It’s all about corporate greed. The good news is that NCI has acknowledged its use in a positive light. The problem remains with the government’s continuing stance that it has no medical benefit.
