Do We Really Need Health Care Reform Or A Lifestyle Reform?

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

I just read that Americans spend one hundred and ten billion dollars a year on fast food. If we were to cut back on that by half, wouldn't that put money into health insurance and make us healthier?
We as a nation have made ourselves fat and lazy and are now complaining about how much it costs to keep us alive and then believe the government can fix it?
The best way to fix the health care industry is to be healthier.

Who Offers Assistance For Children Who Need Medical Equipment?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

I work with a lady whose 8-year-old granddaughter has arthrogryposis, a congenital joint and connective tissue disorder. The girl's mother is having a tough time right now with finances. The family has military benefits, but I'm not sure to what extent.
The mother just paid for new braces for her daughter's legs and a new walker, but she needs a new wheelchair due to a bad wheel.
I wanted to try and see what resources may exist for this family.
Any suggestions?

Should Health Care Companies All Be Non-profits? Is Health Care An Industry That We Need To Be Profit-driven?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Hospitals and health care are a necessity the same as running water, shelter and food.
In this way health care is more of a segment of America's infrastructure rather than a true service industry.
As Americans, the majority of us both enter and exit this world in a medical facility of some sort and it has become an integral part of our culture.
Though free market enterprise is the foundation this country is built on, we Americans realized as a society generations ago that capitalism was not a perfect system. Within the capitalist system the benefit an individual can attain from abusing the system (and thus the entire population) is enormous.
For example, CEOs are able to use their influential positions to drive a company into the ground, pocketing millions while employees and shareholders alike are ruined.
It is because of abuses such as these that the government's role in our society is to regulate industry and ensure that our economy remains intact and prosperous.
With private insurance companies denying policies to individuals with preexisting conditions and even canceling the policies of those who paid their premiums all along only to be screwed in the end, I cannot see how this industry can continue to operate for profit.
Hospitals generally run on a razor thin margin and are very prone to bankruptcy and closures, which is obvious given how many hospitals have shut their doors in the last two years.
Given the fact that our population requires hospitals and health care to survive, doesn't that qualify health care as a pillar of the infrastructure of American society?
Should all organizations that provide for the health of the American people be required to not be operated for profit the same as every other civilized society on earth?

Need A Loan To Help Pay For Rent While In Nursing School?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I'm a nursing student and I have a part time job, the stafford loan is paying for my tuition this year but in the spring I will began clinicals and I will probaly have to quit my job in order to devote all my time to school. I have researched almost all of the lenders that offer private loans and the cost of attendance amount for my school was 12000 a yr. With the amount left over from my tuition It isn't nearly enough for me to pay for my living expenses rent, transportation. What other type of loan can I get to help pay for rent and transportation only? I know it will be hard trying to pay off the loans after I graduate but my main concern now is staying in school and having a place to live.
