My girlfriend was raped walking home alone, a few months ago. The creep that attacked her left her in a parking lot, where she went uncouncious and woke up in an ambulance. She got into a huge panic attack, and when she was being transfered from the gurney to a hospital bed she managed to slip away and ran a couple feet before colapsing on the floor screaming and in tears. The hospital staff fought to get her back on the bed for about five minutes, before they called over some more help, dragged her back to the hospital bed, strapped her down and forced her legs open to do an exam. There was no question as to wether the staff knew she had been raped, as she was found with just her underclothes on, covered in cuts and bite marks.
I didn't get to the hospital until after all this had happened, the situation was explained to me by a nurse. My girlfriend has a huge hospital phobia now, can't even get her to one for treatment.
Do you think what the hospital staff did was right?

I am a nurse and I can tell you we are streched to our limit. When they say there is a shortage of nurses, its because we are overloaded and expected to care for alot of patients. More then we can handle at times. I have an average of 7 patients a night. They are all very sick, and if you have ever cared for a very sick person, imagine that time 7 with alot of paperwork and charting on top of it. No one can imagine how it is to have people screeming in pain others with difficulty breathing, others vomiting, others with irregular heart rates and blood pressures, all at the same time. Along with admissions, doctors orders, pharmacy problems, ect.. I can tell you last night i worked, i had 3 patients on a ventalator, (one Swine Flu, one TB, one resp. failer) the other 4 were other problems MRSA infection, post surgical, conjestive heart failer. I'm affraid of what will happen if we get a surge of patients after the health care bill. Wage control, ect.... What does that mean for us?

There was soo many answers to Hillary Clinton's question that they all sounded the same.
We all want healthcare to work efficiently. But we know that Government Buearacracy will slow it down. Although the intention is good you underestimate one thing...Human Nature. It was good will that put FEMA into existence. Remember Katrina? It was good will that enacted Social Security. Is it working? When Human Nature takes over don't expect the health care industry to get any better under Government Control.
Why did the fore-fathers create a system of government with overlapping powers and checks and balances? Because they understood human nature. They created a system which counted on our human nature...a government that would be to busy fighting itself and less time oppressing the people. So the answer for an effective Healthcare is use elements of human nature...greed, ambition, and capitalism. Skillfully put these elements together and you will have the optimal health care system.

My collegues and I used to watch Holby City and Casualty when I worked on the wards of a big teaching hospital, but purely so we could pick holes in the episodes the next day at work...it was quite amusing to see the medics do ECG tests on a talking fully clothed patient with the electrodes stuck to the outside of their clothes !, and the constant use of the condition "Pneumothorax"and the annoying feature of none of the medical or nursing staff wearing gloves, which as a team we always did. My boss at the time went to the states and visited the hospital where ER was based and reported back that it really was like the show...so I guess ER has to win hands down.

I think that the government should go after insurance companies that don't pay for surgerys and things of that nature. The government goes after the airline industries so why can't they go after the health care industry? And then people who fall below a certain income bracket will get free health care. If you are rich then you should pay for health insurance but not the health care.

Soon I will be getting my associates degree and I was wondering if I continued to get my bachelors in Business Administration, what kind of job will I find. But if I pursue a career in nursing, this is a career that I will not have a problem finding a job. Although this is true, I am worried about my age. When I finish nursing school I will be 50 or 51. Is too old? I will still have approximately 15 - 20 years left to work before retirement. What do you think?
